So I love adoptions. Adoptions are my favorite thing in the entire world and I want to adopt someday (you know when I didn't just start my business). So I'm just going to give you some overview about adoptions today.
There are several different types of adoptions, I bet you didn't know that. Step-parent adoptions are one form. In my opinion this can be the easiest form if the other party is willing to terminate their rights or their rights have been terminated. This is amazing because then the family becomes the family.
There are private adoptions. These are normally babies that have just been born and the adoption becomes completely sealed. Many times this means that the child's biological parents can't contact them or anything and the child can't find out about their biological parents until the time period runs out. These are also amazing, but a little trickier when dealing with. There are many differences between private adoptions and Step-parent adoptions.
Then there are open adoptions. These adoptions allow the child to know who their biological parents are. These are normally done out of the foster care system a lot. Many of these children's parents have had their rights terminated and now the child is a ward of the state. These children need homes too! There are of course extra steps through this as well.
The biggest thing I can tell you about adoptions is, they are complicated. Extremely. I would NOT ever advise anyone to go through an adoption without an attorney, because the Adoption Act is just complicated.
